Circussage events (formerly called "massagathons") are where we organize groups of volunteer Massage Therapists (usually students from local schools) to provide Sports Massage Therapy to the Artists & Performers of local Cirque du Soleil and similar shows.

These events, which are open to student and professional practitioners alike, take place several times a year backstage at the shows. Prior to each event, a Cirque-style massage training is provided to the participating MT's. All event details & expectations are covered at this training.

These events take place in the afternoon, during various days of the week, and last 2-3 hours. Participants are not compensated in any way, however it is a very rare opportunity see what it's like to work backstage in a professional circus environment, and to work on very unique athletic body types. All of them are elite athletes, some of which are former Olympians. And we usually are able to secure seats for each participant to the show that night, so they can watch their clients in action.

Details and upcoming circussage events are listed below. If you or your school would like to attend, please email us at realchi@gmail.com

Circussage History

I have been a Cirque du Soleil MT in Las Vegas since 2008. In the past, when I was also a massage instructor & supervisor for Las Vegas College, I would take groups of students to work on the Cirque performers backstage at various shows. It worked out great... The students would receive credit toward their clinic hours, and would also receive a rare chance to experience working on very unique athletes. When the massage program at Las Vegas College closed, I no longer had access to any student therapists, so I began recruiting MT's from other schools & business locations. These days Cirque is using us more than ever as a part of their new "Active Recovery Week" events, where every so often the Artists get a week off from daily trainings to do something different, yet equally invigorating for their bodies & minds.

Circussage Details

Hello Las Vegas Massage Therapists!

These events are open to students and professionals of Massage Therapy. Students must be accompanied by at least one instructor, and professionals must carry a valid NVMT State license.

Each therapist or student therapist will work for approximately two-three hours, in 20-minute increments, on the show's artists, performers, musicians, and staff. The style of massage may be anything from over-the-clothing sports massage techniques, to on-skin contact circulatory, myofascial, or deep tissue approaches. It just depends upon the client, therapist's ability level, and time permitting. But usually each client will simply ask for a general body region to be worked on or loosened up. Technique demonstrations & suggestions will be provided during your free 2-hour training.

The event will take place in the theater training room or on the main stage. These locations can accommodate up to fifteen treatment tables. We need a minimum of 6 therapists per event, but sometimes can take up to 20. Each therapist, school, or student therapist must provide their own portable treatment tables, linens, lubricants, cleaning supplies, etc. Usually 3-5 sheets or towels per table is enough. If we do not meet the minimum required amount of therapists needed within two weeks of the event, the event will be cancelled.

Announcements for each event are made via the participant email list and the LV Circussage Event group facebook page. If you'd like to get the invites, please email us and/or join the FB group.
